The Chairman of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Casey Wasserman, a veteran sports and entertainment executive, will remain in his position following an investigation into his name appearing in the recently released Jeffrey Epstein files.
The controversy arose after US Justice Department documents revealed he had flown on Epstein’s private plane in 2003 and exchanged emails with Ghislaine Maxwell.
While this prompted calls for his resignation and led to some clients cutting ties with his agency, he has consistently said he regrets the decades-old emails and never had a personal or business relationship with Epstein.
The LA28 board, which includes figures from entertainment, politics, sports, and business, conducted a thorough review with outside counsel. They noted that his single interaction with Epstein occurred 23 years ago during a humanitarian mission to Africa with the Clinton Foundation and emphasised that he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
After evaluating these factors and his track record of leadership over the past decade, the board concluded he should continue to lead the Olympic Games.
The decision allows LA28 to move forward under its current leadership while the spotlight on past connections continues to draw public attention.
