Brian Laundrie, the main suspect in the disappearance and murder of his girlfriend, travel vlogger Gabby Petito, took responsibility for her killing in the notebook found near his remains after his own disappearance and suicide in Florida, according to the FBI.

The notebook was found next to his body in the Florida swamp where he was located on October 20 after he shot himself in the head.

He had been listed as missing since September 17, two days after he was officially identified as a person of interest in Petito’s disappearance, which had been reported by her parents on September 12.

On September 19, a body was found in Grand Tetons, Wyoming and subsequently confirmed as Petito’s on September 21. She had died three to four weeks earlier due to blunt-force injuries to the head and neck and manulation strangulation during the couple’s cross-country RV trip earlier in the summer.

In an announcement today, the FBI said it was closing its investigation into Petito’s death after concluding that Laundrie did admit to it.

The bureau did not say what specifically he wrote in the notebook to confirm he took responsibility.

The couple’s story had taken on worldwide interest after video emerged of them being stopped by police who had received reports of an argument between the two.

Petito disappearance had also received interest from a social media community where she had been attempting to build a following with her travel vlog during their cross country trip where they portrayed themselves as a happy young couple before the police stop exactly a month before she was reported missing.
