The Ministry of National Security says law enforcement teams have responded to and investigated more than 45 reports of bomb threats across Jamaica within the last 24 hours which are targeted at various institutions including schools, healthcare facilities, and courts.
In a statement on Friday (November 10), the ministry said after a thorough investigation the reports were identified as hoaxes.
It said while it is grateful that these were not actual threats, these incidents place a significant strain on law enforcement resources which are already in high demand.
“We continue to collaborate with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the Jamaica Defence Force, and other elements of security forces together with the Ministry of Education and Youth, and all national institutions to reassure our citizens and to ensure that our students are safe,”

The Ministry of National Security added that: ” the repercussions of these hoaxes are far-reaching, affecting the daily lives of many. They cause unwarranted fear, anxiety, and significant disruption to essential services and public order. We strongly condemn these acts of misinformation and false reporting.”
Several classes were cancelled on Thursday and Friday due to bomb threats being sent to schools in Clarendon, Kingston, St. Elizabeth, Trelawny, St. Ann, and St Catherine via email.
The Ministry of National Security is urging the public to remain calm and vigilant while encouraging persons to report any suspicious activity immediately to the police.
It further cautioned individuals against participating in or propagating in such hoaxes noting that it is not only irresponsible but also illegal and those found engaging in such activities will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
