LeBron James has officially surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most field goals ever scored, even though the Los Angeles Lakers fell 120-113 to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday (March 6).
James scored 16 points, passing Abdul-Jabbar’s 15,837 field goals during the first quarter.
At 41, playing his 23rd NBA season, James continues to redefine longevity. He became the first player to reach 50,000 combined points in regular season and playoffs last year, and now has 43,127 points in the regular season alone. While Abdul-Jabbar retired with a 55.9 per cent shooting rate, James maintains an impressive 51.6 per cent, defying Father Time with every game.
Thursday also brought another career landmark; it was James’ 1,606th regular season game, just five shy of Robert Parish’s record.
He earned his 22nd All-Star nod this year and remains undecided about returning next season.
