LeBron James has long talked about owning an NBA team, with Las Vegas at the top of his wish list.
The idea seemed closer this week when the league moved toward an expansion vote targeting Las Vegas and Seattle.
But excitement cooled quickly. Sources report that James’s business partner, Fenway Sports Group, isn’t interested in chasing a Vegas franchise, citing the enormous costs involved. Even with a net worth of US$1.4 billion, James would need massive backing to compete, especially after recent NBA team sales like the Celtics at US$6.1 billion and the Lakers at US$10 billion.
While LeBron continues his 23rd NBA season, his dream of owning a team may have to wait, at least until the stars and dollars align.
