Lee Daniels is venturing into the horror genre with ‘The Deliverance,’ making this his second foray into the world of horror films.
Lee selected a diverse all-black cast, including both familiar faces and new talent.
Andra Day stars as Ebony, the mother of a Pennsylvania family whose children are believed to be demonically possessed. The cast includes Glenn Close as Alberta, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo’Nique as a dedicated social worker assisting the family through a series of exorcisms.
The film also features Caleb McLaughlin, Demi Singleton, Anthony B. Jenkins, Rob Morgan, Omar Epps, Miss Lawrence, and Tasha Smith as Asia, each contributing to the story’s intense and dramatic exploration of faith and family.

In 2023 Daniels executive produced the horror film ‘The Reading’ starring actress and comedian Mo’Nique and fans were shocked to see the two working together again after their public fallout in 2010 after she refused to promote ‘Precious’.
“She was in my first film. We were just best friends and then it went to the left,” Lee said in an interview with The Roots, reflecting on his reunion with Mo’Nique. “Nothing is better than healing friendships.”
Fans are glad to see the two working together again.

According to Daniels Netflix made the right decision by giving the movie an extended run in the theatres, posting on his Instagram: “@netflic knew what they were doing when they gave me an extended run in theatres…cause this b*tch plays for the crowds [fire emoji]”
‘The Deliverance’ debuts in Theatres on August 16th and Netflix on August 30th.
The film’s trailer has left fans reeling at the seams wanting to see what Lee has to offer his viewers since his last hit movie was in 2013 with ‘The Butler’.
