Nervous moments for Leicester City in the dying stages of their match against Newcastle on Sunday (January 3), but the 2-1 end result leaves the third-placed outfit in good standing in the English Premier League (EPL).
Leicester starts the new year with a well-needed win, which puts the former champions a point behind leaders Liverpool and Manchester United.
Playing away at Newcastle’s St James Park stadium, Leicester enjoyed much of the possession in the first half. The Foxes, who showed glimpses of their dangerous form, got into their groove slowly, ending the first 45 minutes in a stalemate.
The Brendan Rodgers-managed club sprung into action in the second half, with Coventry striker James Maddison opening the scorecard in the 55th minute.
The Leicester lead was doubled in the 72nd as Youri Tielemans led with a sweet strike, curled in from the edge of the box.
Newcastle pulled one back in the 82nd after Andy Carroll volleyed in for the home side.
In the end, the consolation goal as all the Magpies would muster as Leicester walked away with the spoils (and most importantly, three points).
The Foxes, having played 17 matches to date, are on 32 points while Liverpool and Manchester United, tied on 33 points each, have a game in hand.
