Jamaican rising star Leno Banton is making moves with his Loverman EP, released February 1 with lead single Brown Sugar.

The official music video for Brown Sugar incorporates local talent who helped to bring the production together.

The video was produced by Natty Produxtions, co-produced by Banton himself, and the creative directors were Mark Llewellyn (@mvrk.pov) assisted by Davy Fresh (@davyfrsh).

Osunya Minott (@osunyarose) was the stylist while make up was done by Natania Knight.

Banton’s sound ranges from new wave conscious reggae to dancehall and hip hop.

Brown Sugar presents a sweet reggae melody infused with dancehall that has not really been present on the scene since the COVID-19 pandemic.

His lyrics are influenced by reality and his upbringing in Kingston, Jamaica.

The video itself is a whole vibe, with an energy that stimulates the feeling of excitement, positivity and just having fun, while incorporating the natural beauty of different Jamaican women including Stephanie Lawrence, Dana Ivey and Christina Brown.

Brown Sugar speaks about loving a woman unconditionally and, well, “if he doesn’t love you right, him a idiot boy!”

The melody reminds the listener of what it is like to be ‘outside’.

It is the kind of sound that makes a girl want to dance and makes a guy want to be considered a ‘Mr Loverman’.

This is a song for the ladies.
