Despite an announcement of his participation, Jamaican striker Leon Bailey has withdrawn from the Reggae Boyz lineup for the 2024 Copa America tournament.
Moments after his surprise inclusion was announced by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Bailey categorically denied his listing and chalked up the confusion to “misleading information” on the part of the domestic football governing body.

Subsequently, Bailey’s adopted father and agent, Craig Butler, posted on Instagram the following statement:
“Leon Bailey has stated that he is taking a break from the Jamaica national team for his mental health and to spend time with his family. His position has not changed. We kindly ask that you respect his wishes at this time. Posts made on social media that are surfacing at this time is a misrepresentation of his position,” Butler wrote. ” We wish the Reggae Boyz well in the Copa America competition and he, along with his management team, will continue to support the Jamaica National Team at all levels… change must come… Respect and One Love for all”

The 26-year-old Aston Villa talent had been suspended by head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson for the Concacaf Nations League finals in March for breaking curfew.
Bailey later announced that he would be taking a break from the national team, but it is expected that he will return for the tournament.
“Jamaica national team is not doing anything for me enuh and the reason why mi say that – Jamaica nation team cannot give me exposure enuh bro,” Bailey said to host Jais Frais on the Let’s Be Honest Podcast.
No announcement has come from the Reggae Boyz administration or Copa America regarding the matter.
The Reggae Boyz opening game against Mexico is set to take place on June 22.
