A new era for Caribbean connectivity was marked last Friday (July 11) when regional carrier LIAT 2020 made its inaugural flight to Jamaica’s tourism capital, Montego Bay.

This momentous occasion, the first intra-island service since its five-year hiatus, not only marks the introduction of a new route but also symbolises LIAT 2020’s unwavering commitment to enhancing connectivity across the region. LIAT 2020 is the national airline of Antigua and Barbuda and was preceded by LIAT (1974).

It began operations in August 2024 and is a 30/70 venture between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and Air Peace. This new LIAT 2020 service to the Sangster International Airport in the second city is set to invigorate the Caribbean tourist experience, opening doors to a plethora of adventures, cultural experiences, and breathtaking natural beauty.

LIAT 2020 expanding its regional network

This move reflects LIAT’s strategic vision to expand its regional network and meet the growing demand for travel within the Caribbean, positioning itself as a leader in the regional aviation sector. Tourism officials, including Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority CEO Colin James and Jamaican portfolio minister Edmund Bartlett, were there to witness the event.

LIAT 2020 says it is not merely launching a new flight path but is embarking on a transformative journey that aims to unite the Caribbean. With this new route, LIAT is reinforcing its commitment to the people and economies of the region, ensuring more reliable travel options and enriching connections among our islands.
