‘Light’ quake rocks eastern Jamaica

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake rattled sections of eastern Jamaica on Tuesday (July 16).

Preliminary information from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Earthquake Unit indicated that the tremor struck around 5:46 pm.

The temblor’s epicentre was recorded 10 kilometres south of Hope Bay, Portland, and was felt by citizens in the parishes of Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine.

There are no reports of major infrastructural damage of injuries at this time.
