American rapper and internet proclaimed marketing genius Lil Nas X has once again wowed audiences with the unthinkable.
Just when we thought we’d seen every trick up his sleeves, he pulls out all the stops and creates yet another marketing masterpiece.
After artfully convincing fans throughout the weekend that he would be making an appearance in court on Monday (July 19) in relation to his “Satan Shoes”, a line of limited-edition modified Nike sneakers with Satanic designs, for which he was later sued, fans were pleasantly surprised to see the comedic turn off events in Nas X’s court ruling.
Playing on the legal battle that unfolded in the wake of his release of the hugely successful Montero (Call Me By Your Name) single and Satan Shoes in March 2021, Nas X today (July 19) found himself ‘on trial’ in the release of a teaser for his next song, Industry Baby.
The teaser finds Nas X playing the roles of the defendant, judge, juror and prosecution and defence lawyers, where the prosecuting attorney announces that the trial isn’t so much about the shoes, but rather Lil Nas X’s sexuality.
After the musician matter-of-factly acknowledges that he is gay, a stance that is well-known by his mother, the judge sentences him to five years in “Montero State Prison”.
The judge’s ruling is later followed by opening credits including the song title Industry Baby by Lil Nas X feat Jack Harlow, produced by Take a Daytrip and Kanye West.
The new song is expected to be released on July 23 and will likely appear on the Old Town Road singer’s upcoming album, Montero.
