Just before the official release of his new single, Industry Baby, Lil Nas X is taking some time to reflect, vocalising his thoughts in the form of an emotionally penned letter to his younger self.
In a tweet posted on Wednesday (July 21), Nas X shared with fans a letter he had written to pre-pandemic 20-year-old Montero.
“I wrote a song for us,” the note began.
Then, referencing his life post-Old Town Road and after the start of the pandemic, he stated: “I know sometimes you feel like it’s all downhill from here. I know your sexuality has made you feel like an outcast amongst your peers.”
The letter continued: “I know going from having the biggest song in the world to being trapped in your apartment is weighing heavy on you. And I know if you hear the phrase ‘one hit wonder’ one more time, you might combust.”
Despite all the things that appeared to be going wrong, however, Nas X went on to urge his younger self to “keep going” and “stop feeling sorry” for himself.
“I need you to realise that you have the opportunity to be the person that you needed growing up. i need you to stop feeling sorry for yourself. And i need you to remember that the only person who has to believe in YOU is YOU,” wrote Nas X.
The release of the letter comes days after the Montero (Call Me By Your Name) singer blew up the internet after putting a comedic twist on his legal battle with Nike over his ‘Satan Shoes’, in the teaser for Industry Baby‘s release.
The song, which features Jack Harlow and is produced by Take a Daytrip and Kanye West, is set to be released on Friday (July 23) and will coincide with the release of West’s new album, Donda.
