After the controversial launch of Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan Shoes’ in collaboration with MSCHF on Monday (March 30), the Church of Satan has confirmed its approval of the artiste’s customised sneakers.
In an interview with TMZ, David Harris, magister for the Church of Satan, expressed that the shoes had been receiving a ton of love from the church, as they embraced the “essence of Satanism”.
Contrary to popular opinion, Satanists, as believers of the church are called, do not worship Satan, nor do they believe in the existence of God or the Devil. They are opposed to everything spiritual and hold no belief in the supernatural or afterlife.
The main tenet of Satanism is a belief in being true to one’s self, living life to the fullest, and personal achievement, teachings which the church says are being showcased by Lil Nas X’s new kicks.
The shoe’s Monday release came on the heels of the artiste’s polarising MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) music video released last weekend, which saw the Old Town Road artiste celebrating being queer and forcing the world to deal with it.
The strategic release proved a brilliant marketing plan, however, as, within minutes of the customised Air Max 97’s limited edition 666 pairs release, the shoes which were priced at US$1,018 a pop, were completely sold out.

According to Harris, between the shoes and the “breathtaking” music video, LNX is clearly extending a middle finger to folks who told him he’d burn in hell for his sexuality.
For this, the Church of Satan applauds Lil Nas X, as he is living life on his own terms, being his honest self.
In the words of LNX, “I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the s**t y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay. So I hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”
