Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant reaffirmed its long-standing tradition of community support during the 26th staging of the annual Seafood Carnival, presenting a J$100,000 donation to assist the Fraser family, whose baby requires urgent surgery overseas.

The donation underscores the restaurant’s commitment to giving back to the Alligator Pond community that has supported it for decades. In addition to the cheque presented at the Seafood Carnival, Little Ochie also contributed funds raised at its popular

New Year’s Bash earlier this year, ensuring that the family would have additional resources to meet medical and travel expenses.

Founded more than 30 years ago, Little Ochie has grown from a humble beachside eatery into one of Jamaica’s most recognised seafood destinations, known worldwide while remaining firmly rooted in its community. Over the years, the restaurant has been a pillar of support in Alligator Pond, investing in health, education, and livelihoods.

“If you ask about Alligator Pond, some might ask ‘where is that’ but if you ask about Little Ochie everybody knows where that is, which is Alligator Pond,” said Ika Christian, manager at Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant.

“When it comes to fishing, we help to move 85 per cent of the catch of local fishermen through the restaurant. At least 90 per cent of the staff at Little Ochie is from the community of Alligator Pond. Healthwise, school-wise, we donate to Alligator Pond All-Age and the Alligator Pond Basic School.”

Christian emphasised that philanthropy is not just occasional but central to the restaurant’s ethos. “Giving back is one of the main objectives of Little Ochie because if it were not for the support of the community, Little Ochie would not be what it is today,” she noted.

The 2025 Seafood Carnival was a celebration of culture, cuisine, and community, but the donation also reminded patrons that the event is about more than food and festivities; it is about making a lasting impact. With initiatives ranging from supporting local schools to empowering farmers and fishermen, Little Ochie continues to uplift the people of Alligator Pond and surrounding areas, proving that its success is inseparable from the well-being of its community.
