The picturesque grounds of the Constant Spring Golf Club were transformed into a state-of-the-art arena for the Live & Direc concert last Saturday (June 28).
The star-studded event, headlined by R&B icons Brian McKnight and Dru Hill, also featured soulful local talents Mozein, Joby Jay, and Chris Ellis, in a show that captivated over 2,500 attendees with a blend of timeless hits, breathtaking vocals, and high-energy performances.
The night kicked off on a high note with 2022 Digicel Rising Stars winner, Mozein, delivering a smooth and sultry performance that set the tone for an evening of feel-good music and impeccable vibes. Up next, Joby Jay took command of the stage with a captivating fusion of reggae and soul, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

Christopher Ellis, channelling the energy and spirit of his late father, the legendary Alton Ellis, gave a moving and memorable performance. His set evoked vivid memories of his father’s classic shows, culminating in a heartfelt tribute with a rendition of ‘I’m Still In Love With You‘.
Shortly after, ’90s boy band Dru Hill made a grand entrance to deafening screams and applause. Led by the eccentric and energetic Sisqó, the group ignited the stage with fan favourites including ‘In My Bed‘, ‘Never Make a Promise‘, and ‘How Deep Is Your Love‘.
Their performance, an hour of tightly choreographed, vocally rich showmanship, brought waves of nostalgia and excitement. Before exiting the stage, Sisqó treated the audience to the much-anticipated ‘Thong Song‘, sending the crowd into a frenzy of delight.

The lovers’ hour arrived as ‘Back at One‘ crooner Brian McKnight took centre stage. Known for his silky tenor and emotionally resonant ballads, McKnight embraced the love-filled energy of the audience, becoming visibly moved during his performance of ‘Everything‘, even shedding tears.
The grounds echoed like a choir as fans sang along to ‘6, 8, 12‘, ‘Anytime‘, and ‘Love of My Life‘. He closed his set with ‘One Last Cry’, leaving the stage to a wave of resounding applause and calls for an encore.
“Our vision was to unite fans old and new under one night of soulful R&B,” said Cheryl Peart, director of Live & Direc. “The synergy between Brian McKnight and Dru Hill, paired with local standouts like Mozein, Joby Jay, and Chris Ellis, delivered a concert we’ll all remember for years.”

The production featured top-tier sound and lighting, dramatic stage visuals, and a nostalgic yet fresh atmosphere that amplified the concert experience. It was a night that celebrated not only legendary R&B but also Jamaica’s rising stars, creating an unforgettable musical experience for all in attendance.
