American live streaming service, Twitch Interactive – an Amazon-owned platform, disabled United States President Trump’s account on Thursday, according to Axios.
Founders Justin Kan and Emmett Shear responded with this ‘knee-jerk’ response after the penetration of the U.S Capitol building on Wednesday (January 6).
Apparently, this is their efforts in taking action on Trump’s accounts following his calls inciting violence which resulted in a historic riot in Washington DC.
In addition to Twitch, other platforms like Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Shopify, have discontinued any form of representation of the U.S. president.
Snapchat was the first to ban the president’s account, then Facebook, whose CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the account would be banned indefinitely.
Following the social platforms was Twitter, which froze Trump’s accounts for 12 hours after breaches of its user’s policy. He may be banned indefinitely if he continues to break the company’s rules.
Shopify Inc, a Canadian multinational e-commerce company, removed two online stores affiliated with the president.
Google-owned streaming company YouTube, in a statement, said it would start applying ‘strikes’ to Trump’s account and other channels that peddle election results misinformation.
“Given the current extraordinary circumstances and the President’s incendiary rhetoric, we believe this is a necessary step to protect our community and prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence,” Twitch said.
Twitch was also one of the first social platforms, in June, to temporarily ban Donald Trump’s channel for hateful content about the Black Lives Matter protests.
