Liverpool’s imperious form continues as they lead the table eight points clear going into the new year.

Today (December 29) they destroyed West Ham at the London Stadium.

Luis Diaz scored in the 30th minute and when he did you couldn’t see the drubbing coming.

In the 40th minute, Cody Gakpo scored and Liverpool was in the driver’s seat.

Just before the half-time interval, striker Mohamed Salah made it 3-0.

It was going to be a hard afternoon for the Hammers and their boss Julen Lopetegui’s face said it all as he made his way disconsolately down the tunnel.

Would Liverpool inflict even more punishment in the second half? They certainly did.

Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deflected goal made it 4-0. It is said that he is bound for Real Madrid, leaving Liverpool after 20 years of service. With Liverpool in this form and likely to win both the EPL and the Champions League, perhaps he should change his mind and stay put.

The Arne Slot era looks promising indeed and having been a mainstay of Klopp’s glory days, why not continue the party?

Diogo Jota is having a good season and came on as a sub scoring the fifth goal, making it a miserable afternoon for West Ham.

Mohamed Salah was the man of the match today. He is now up to 20 goals in just 26 games. He may get to 40 before the season is done.

Is he the best player in the world right now?

“If you look at his numbers, you can argue that but there are different players in different leagues that have a lot of quality. But Mo is definitely up there at the moment. He could have scored more today but I also liked his work rate for the team without the ball. He is in a very good place. Let’s hope he can stay like this for a long time,” said his manager Arne Slot.

Can Chelsea and Arsenal catch Liverpool in this form? Will the boys from Mersyside continue their winning streak into 2025, conquering all before them?

On the game today, Slot mused: “ I enjoyed the game a lot because it doesn’t happen many times that I could just sit back and enjoy. It was the situation against Tottenham that we were 5-1 up and they came back 5-3, but today we kept control over the game.”
