Taxi operators in Linstead, St Catherine withdrew their service today to demonstrate against what they consider harassment from members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

The taxi operators parked their vehicles as they complained about a host of new restrictions imposed on the routes they ply.

“Wi can’t drive pan Market Street again ’cause police a harass wi and want wi drive all the way ‘roun’ a gully and go inna the park,” one taxi operator, who operates on the Time and Patience to Linstead route, told Our Today.

The section of the popular King Street which previously boasted a dual carriageway has been converted to a one way.

Many of the taxi drivers complained that the new system was creating more traffic in the busy town.

Another reason cited for the protest was that taxi operators in Linstead have been once again relocated to the town’s main transport centre.

Operators and passengers alike complained that the park is too far away from the town.

Over the years, drivers have complained that they do not get enough passengers when they go into the park.
