Loring Consulting Engineers has officially launched its Jamaica office, marking a major milestone in the firm’s 70-year history and a strategic step in its Caribbean growth agenda.

Held in Kingston on Wednesday, March 4, which is recognised as World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, the launch signals the company’s commitment to contributing to Jamaica’s evolving infrastructure landscape through globally benchmarked engineering standards and local expertise. Led by Jamaican-born Chief Executive Officer Oneil Gayle, Loring brings to the region the strength of a firm that has been delivering consulting engineering services since 1956.

With a staff complement of more than 200 professionals, gross annual revenue exceeding US$50 million, and over 100 active projects representing more than US$7 billion in construction value, the company enters the Caribbean market backed by substantial scale and technical depth.

The Jamaica office represents Loring’s first Caribbean location and second international office. The Kingston-based team, established in 2023 and now comprising approximately 30 professionals, integrates international engineering experience with local knowledge to deliver high-performance building systems designed specifically for the island’s regulatory framework, climate context and developmental agenda.

A Legacy of Scale and Technical Leadership

Loring Consulting Engineers is the largest independent MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) consulting firm in New York City and one of the largest Black-owned MEP engineering firms in the United States. The company is consistently ranked among the top consulting engineering firms in multiple sectors across the New York market, including K–12 education, commercial office buildings, government facilities, healthcare institutions and mission-critical infrastructure.

Officially launching its Jamaica office, Loring Consulting Engineers marked this strategic step in its Caribbean growth agenda in the firm’s 70-year history. Gayle described the Jamaica launch as both a strategic and deeply personal milestone. “Establishing Loring’s presence in Jamaica represents the convergence of global capability and local commitment,” said Gayle. “For 70 years, our firm has built a reputation for technical excellence, accountability and high-performance design. Bringing that experience to Jamaica allows us to support the country’s infrastructure ambitions with solutions that are efficient, resilient and built for long-term value.”

Loring provides a comprehensive suite of building systems engineering services, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering; fire protection and life safety systems; information and communication technology (ICT) design; building commissioning services; energy auditing and sustainability consulting; and rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) oversight to ensure optimal building performance throughout the lifecycle of a project.

Aligning with National Sustainability Priorities

Delivering remarks at the launch, Matthew Samuda, Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change, highlighted the critical role of engineering excellence in advancing Jamaica’s sustainability and climate resilience agenda, particularly in the wake of recent weather events.

“Over the last five years, our island has experienced a series of events enough to give you meteorological whiplash. That’s what climate change is—your weather patterns no longer have a pattern, and one must adapt to deal with them. There are nature-based solutions, but there are also adaptation measures which require very solid engineering, because investments made to deliver against the promise of prosperity must be grounded in solid engineering,” Samuda shared.

“We are unlocking an unprecedented amount of capital works in Jamaica, and those investments require engineering skill and engineers if we are to ensure that the investment doesn’t bring about short-term pleasure, but creates long-term prosperity.”

Lauding Loring’s human capital investment in the island, he also implored other private sector entities within the diaspora to return home to invest and participate in Jamaica’s growing economy. Commending Gayle’s vision of creating opportunities for Jamaica’s youth, Samuda urged diaspora Jamaicans to “come back home, we have the opportunities, and we will make a way for you to invest, to live, to bring up children or to retire, because that is the true achievement of vision 2030”.

The launch forms part of Loring’s broader 70th anniversary celebrations. Founded in 1956, the firm has developed a reputation for integrity and technical rigour, including serving as Electrical Engineer of Record for the original World Trade Center complex in New York; a project that cemented its standing within the global engineering community.

Steven Kennah, President of Loring Consulting Engineers, speaks on the company’s vision and commitment to engineering excellence during the Jamaica office launch on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Looking ahead, Loring Consulting Engineers aims to contribute meaningfully to Jamaica’s built environment across healthcare infrastructure, tourism and hospitality developments, commercial and mixed-use projects, educational facilities, and energy optimisation initiatives.

As Jamaica accelerates investment in resilient, technology-enabled infrastructure, Loring’s official launch underscores confidence in the island’s development trajectory and positions the firm as a long-term partner in delivering efficient, sustainable and globally competitive engineering solutions.
