Education Minister Fayval Williams said there was major damage to Manning’s Child Care facility in the hard-hit parish of St. Elizabeth following Hurricane Beryl.
Williams said damage was done to the roof of the facility, kitchen, main dining room, a dormitory and farm equipment store room.
She made the revelation during an update on the impact of the hurricane on the education sector on Friday (July 19).
Despite the damage to the facility, Williams reported that the children were safe during the hurricane and remained in good spirits since the passage.
The southern coast of the island sustained significant damage during the passage of Beryl over two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, the minister said there was damage reported to some public libraries across the island, such as the Greater Portmore branch.
Minor damage was reported across the youth innovation centres, with youth engagement continuing in these spaces.
