Maldon High from St James have withdrawn from the ISSA DaCosta Cup days after it was announced that schoolboy football will resume on Friday, November 28.

Maldon High, located in southern St James at Summer Hill, near Maroon Town, was bottom of the four-team Zone 1 in the round of 16 after losing 1-6 to Cornwall College before the passage of Hurricane Melissa destroyed the western parishes on Tuesday, October 28.

“Please note that Maldon High has withdrawn from the Dacosta Cup Competition. This is due to difficulties being experienced with getting their team together, due to Hurricane Melissa,” said ISSA.

This occurrence means Zone 1 will only have three teams, Cornwall College, Christiana High and Williams Knibb High. The previous match versus Cornwall College has been declared null and void.

Maldon, formed in 1969, had a good season, finishing second in Zone A in the first round with 19 points, including six wins, one defeat, and three drawn games. They finished only behind Cornwall College, which had 28 points.

Maldon then navigated their way through the second round, this time finishing second in Group 4 with six points behind St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) with nine points and advanced to be amongst the best 16 teams in rural Jamaica.
