Malta and Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) concluded their pilot youth development initiative on Sunday, September 15, ‘Malta Sparks’, with a free medical clinic aimed at enhancing the well-being of young footballers.
Held at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Kingston, the clinic addressed the physical and mental needs of aspiring athletes.
The event offered crucial medical services, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings provided by MobiCare Mobile Medical Centre. Educational workshops focused on injury prevention and management, led by physiotherapist Nicole Reid and training manager Alonzo Mothersill, covered first-aid and emergency response techniques.

Malta Junior Brand Manager, Cavell Robinson highlighted the programme’s broader goals, stating: “Malta is dedicated to developing youth athletes holistically. Beyond medical care, we aim to impart life skills like leadership and strategic thinking to prepare them for future challenges.”
The Malta Sparks initiative, which started with local football clubs and expanded to schools, emphasises the importance of personal branding, media engagement, and nutrition alongside physical training.

PFJL CEO, Owen Hill lauded the programme, noting, “Programmes like these are extremely important to the overall development of our athletes. The support from Malta has been incredible and we are looking at the impacts on the players and hope to continue similar initiatives. We are excited to continue growing this project bigger and better to incorporate more youth within the ecosystem and have it over a longer period.”
Malta’s ongoing support toward youth development is evident through its comprehensive support for both athletic and personal growth, ensuring that young footballers are well-prepared on and off the field.
