
Forty-one-year-old Giovannie Skeen, otherwise called ‘Mother Love’, a clothes vendor of the Marlborough district in Balaclava, St Elizabeth, has been arrested and charged after a video showing him making threats regarding the outcome of the September 3 general election.
Head of the St Elizabeth police, Superintendent Coleridge Minto, has confirmed his apprehension.
The police report that a viral social media video was brought to their attention in which Skeen was recorded saying that if the People’s National Party (PNP) candidate in his constituency does not win in the upcoming general election, he would cause violence to ensue in the area.
The video, which was posted to his TikTok page on Monday, August 18, at about 2 pm, captured him saying, “if we no win, we ago turn the world inna Haiti, pure big matic and rifle” and “big up mi MP Miss Jess nuff a dem a chat up them mouth a true likes and sweets. Them caah give we nuh talk me a real PNP me wi murder people fi me party”.
As a result of the post, on Wednesday, the police carried out a targeted operation in the Balaclava community, where Skeen was seen and detained.
He was later charged with the use of audiovisual communication to promote violence.
