Police Commissioner, Anthony Anderson has identified Shemar Yee as the man who was charged with 12 offences in relation to a robbery that took place at a Scotiabank ATM along Braeton Parkway in Portmore.

Reports from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) are that security guards attached to Beryllium came under heavy fire from gunmen when they attempted to load an ATM in the vicinity last month.

Five people were wounded, including four security guards and a licensed firearm holder. Three of the guards were shot, but their injuries are not considered life threatening.

Deputy Commissioner Fitz Bailey also shared during a press briefing today (April 4) that six additional suspects are in custody in relation to the event.

“We have been working diligently to crush the organised crime operation in Jamaica and we are getting some significant results. So some of the avenues that they use to produce income for the organised crime world have been impacted by the activity of the security forces. So definitely they will seek other avenues to replenish what they are doing to get additional funding. But we will continue to pursue them and we have a general idea of who some of these people are,” said Bailey.

Commissioner Anderson further disclosed that the JCF have been in talks with private security companies, offering them tips on how to reduce the vulnerabilities in their service. He said that the discussions have been fruitful, resulting in new operating procedures being put in place.

“Let me make it clear, for those persons who believe that they can commit these acts, carrying their weapons in public spaces without any concern for people and operating like terrorists -[you] will be found. We’ll find you and you will face the full force of the law,” Anderson declared.

He added that the JCF has made significant progress in the ongoing investigation.

It was previously confirmed that shortly after the robbery the JCF managed to track down the vehicle that was used to carry out the attack. The vehicle was registered as private and steps made to contact the owner.
