Mikhail Thompson was shot dead at the Maryfield Apartments, in St Andrew, on Friday, December 27, 2024.

The man shot dead at Maryfield Apartments on Marley Road, St Andrew on Friday was a Canadian party promotor who was visiting Jamaica over the Christmas season.

Mikail Thompson, otherwise known as Wayne Thompson, was shot multiple times at the courtyard of the complex where he had secured his stay via Airbnb.

No motives have been revealed for his killing which some have speculated may be a hit.

A video circulating on social media shows Thompson handing a hat to his assailant who fired on him several times before jumping into a car which sped off.

Our Today understands that he was an avid patron of the Milk & Honey party and was well-known by its promotors. The murdered young man promoted Milk & Honey on his social media platforms and showcased its merchandise. He was not a part of the team nor did he have an ownership interest.

Speaking from Toronto party promoter Matt Helm said: “Crime and murder in Jamaica is out of control and I hear the country is looking at over 1,500 murders for 2024. That is crazy and one can understand why both the United States and Canada have issued travel advisories on Jamaica.

“… he went to Jamaica to have fun and party and ended up dead in a horrible way. It’s a warning to all tourists. He didn’t find Milk & Honey rather he met with the Grim Reaper in Kingston Jamaica. It is very sad. When will Jamaica address its crime problem? The country is unsafe.

“Wayne was well-liked in the Jamaican dancehall community in Toronto and he had a clothing line. He loved Jamaica and had intended to go to the Vybz Kartel Freedom Street concert on New Year’s Eve. Rest in peace, my brother.”
