Erick Robinson, 27, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, to be served at hard labour, after pleading guilty to stealing batteries and cables from telecommunications provider Digicel.

Robinson appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court yesterday on charges of malicious destruction of property, simple larceny, and trespassing on the works of a telecommunication facility.

Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle handed down the sentence.

In delivering the ruling, the court noted that Robinson was not eligible for the up to 50 per cent discount on sentencing due to a previous conviction.

He was subsequently sentenced to 18 months on each count. The sentences are to run concurrently, which means he will serve 18 months behind bars.

The police arrested Robinson after Digicel reported the theft of batteries and cables in June.
