Liverpool’s miserable season continues with Manchester City putting them to the sword today with a convincing victory at home.
Manchester City dominated the game with their top striker Ealing Haaland bagging a hat trick and Antoine Semenyo getting the other goal.
It was a blue day at the Etihad Stadium. .
Mo Salah who is leaving Liverpool at the end of this season had a disappointing game with little impact and went on to miss a penalty.
This victory will give Manchester City impetus to chase down EPL leader Arsenal. Their Head Coach Pep Guardiola has said City want to end the season strong with silverware.
Liverpool’s coach Arne Slot said after the match: “ Losing is already a disappointment and then losing 4-0 is a big disappointment. The 20 minutes where we conceded four goals were not of our standard.”
Liverpool looked lathargic and showed no fight. They practically laid down like a whipped dog and took the beating. They will have to do much better against Paris St Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Today Manchester City scored two goals by half time and to make matters worse for Liverpool added a further two by the hour mark. They now move on to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Haaland has scored for a fourth straight game against Liverpool with the Reds winning only one of their last four matches coming into this tie.
Pep Guardiola was suspended for this game with his assistant Pep Lijnders stepping in as coach today.
“ I have worked with a lot of good strikers, with a lot of goals. The second goal was insane, the way he attacked-he-flies-the way he puts the ball to the corners. I love these old-school strikers’ goals.
“ It is crazy what we are asking of Haaland. Press and run in the box and keep the ball-there are a lot of things we ask and to do that every three days. Not everything in a long season will go your way but it shows character and mentality that he comes back in that fashion.
“ He is a machine to work with,” said Lijnders.
