This was an extraordinary game full of undulating fortunes.
With Liverpool on course to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season and looking to secure the quadruple, there was all to play for.
Having downed the other Manchester giant last week, could Liverpool beat both City and United in successive weeks?
Manchester United started briskly getting behind Liverpool’s backline
It was such an attack that saw Scott McTominay in the box bundle the ball over the line to open the scoring for Manchester United.
Liverpool’s heads didn’t go down. Klopp’s attacking line up put United under immense pressure and it was a matter of time before they got the equaliser.
Wataru Endo thought he cancelled out McTominay’s opener in the 38th minute, only for the goal to be disallowed, VAR deeming Mo Salah marginally offside.
Nunez and Diaz were relentless in attack, their tails up. It has to be said, that Mo Salah looked a little lacklustre today. He’s probably still recovering from his injury.
Alexis Mac Allister has proven to be a good addition to the team and he scored for Liverpool from a deflection that duped Manchester United’s goalkeeper.
In the second minute of extra time in the first half, Mo Salah put Liverpool into the lead 2-1.
At half-time, Liverpool looked the better team. Manchester United would have to find the answers.
If manager Eric ten Hag lost today, the new ownership consortium would in all likelihood, relieve him of the position. That’s always the way when new people come in-they want their own.
Eric ten Hag was under tremendous pressure but coming out for the second half, he didn’t show it.
Picking up from where they left off, the second-half was all Liverpool and it would have taken a brave person to bet against them.
Having to try something, ten Hag threw on the Brazilian Antony who was energetic and ran at Liverpool’s defence. He got his reward in the 87th minute with a brilliant goal on the turn.
Honours even.
Marcus Rashford could have put this game to bed in the last minute of regulation time but squandered a sitter.

He must have wondered whether he would rue this opportunity if Liverpool went on to get the win.
Into extra time,15 minutes each way.
It’s still all Liverpool but ten Hag’s decision to put on Harry Maguire and Antony gives United impetus. The Red Devils are up for the fight.
Harvey Elliott breaks United hearts by scoring from a deflection off ex-Spurs player Christien Eriksen in the 105th minute.
It’s now 3-2, surely Liverpool has got this.
Manchester United rolls up their sleeves and throw everything at Liverpool. Marcus Rashford who was the villain half an hour ago, scores in the 112th minute.
It looks like this game is going to penalties.
But wait, it’s not all over, it is now with 21-year-old Amad Diallo scoring in the last minute.

Alejandro Garnacho and Diallo charged up the field on a breakaway after a Liverpool corner with Diallo firing home the winner in the 120th minute to a deafening roar from the Old Trafford faithful, leaving Klopp looking stunned on the sideline.
You couldn’t make this stuff up.
An epic game that will be long remembered.
Eric ten Hag comes back first from 2-1 down, then 3-2. This performance must save his job. If Manchester United can win the FA Cup and qualify for Champions League, he will be back next season.
Young Amad got sent off for taking off his shirt and will miss the semi-final but who cares? He was the hero of the day.

Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp said after the game: “After being 2-1 up, we had so many chances to kill the game off. We were nearly there, then we lose the game 4-3. That’s all right, I cannot ask the boys for more. Today was hard. Congratulations to United for going to the semi-final.”
Having won the Carabao Cup, Liverpool can still win the EPL and the Europa Cup.
