Under Head Coach Liam Rosenior, Chelsea can’t seem to get it right and were beaten 0-1 at Stamford Bridge yesterday by Michael Carrick’s resurgent Manchester United.

Matheus Cunha met Bruno Fernandes cross to blast the ball past Robert Sanchez for the game’s only goal scored in the 43rd minute.

Manchester United’s usual defensive line-up was absent with no Harry Maguire, no Leny Yoro, no Lisandro Martinez and no Matthijs de Ligt, yet Chelsea was still unable to score.

Michael Carrick, Manchester United’s coach, had to make do with a 19-year-old at centre back who had a good game and served his tea well.

After the beating Chelsea received from Manchester City last week this was another disappointment. Chelsea have now lost four EPL games in a row without scoring and now look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester United have gone from strength to strength under Michael Carrick and they should give him the job as permanent Head Coach at the end of the season. He deserves it.

He came in when Manchester United were in the doldrums, and Ruben Amorim’s management was not producing the right results. Carrick has turned around the team, and it now plays with confidence.

Carrick, a former Manchester United player, is dedicated to the club. He has the support of Sir Alex Ferguson, the players believe in him, he has proved himself. Why not give him the shot?

There is a tendency to opt for the hot European coaches of the moment but in many cases they have failed to deliver in the EPL.

Erik ten Hag, Thomas Frank, Ruben Amorim, Liam Rosenior, Igor Tudor, Enzo Maresca, Nuno Espirito Santo, Vitor Pereira- Carrick has bested them all and delivered.

Carrick is young enough to be an investment over many years, a man of the club who knows its DNA and was part of the glory days.

Manchester United are now in third spot in the EPL table with Aston Villa just behind (goal difference).

Chelsea are ten points behind Manchester United with Brentford, Everton, Bournemouth all on 48 points. Chelsea may miss out on European football altogether, let alone the Champions League, judging by more recent performances. Liam Rosenior must find the answer and do so fast.

Cole Palmer outlined what is at stake here for Chelsea: “ If we’re not in the Champions League, a lot changes, everything changes. We absolutely have to qualify for it.”
