Manchester United have officially cut ties with Jadon Sancho.
The club decided not to trigger an option to extend his contract, a move that would have helped preserve any potential resale value but still required a buyer willing to pay. Sancho’s exit adds to a growing list of high cost departures, with Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia also leaving after combined transfers worth around £148 million now ending without fees coming back into the club.
Signed for £73 million, Sancho made just 83 appearances for United, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists. In recent seasons, he has spent most of his time away from Manchester on loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. His only appearance for United since August 2023 came in the 2024 Community Shield, with his last Premier League outing dating back nearly three years. His fall out with former manager Erik ten Hag saw him removed from the squad and later training alone before his return to Dortmund in early 2024.
Despite the struggles at United, Sancho has still featured in major European finals with multiple clubs in recent years, lifting trophies during loan spells and rebuilding his reputation abroad.
Chelsea paid a penalty fee to end their loan without signing him permanently, while Aston Villa are also not expected to pursue a deal after limited starts under Unai Emery. Borussia Dortmund, where Sancho enjoyed his most productive spell, are once again being linked with a possible third return. Casemiro departs after four seasons, having arrived from Real Madrid in a £63 million move and making 160 appearances, scoring 26 goals while playing a key role in United’s recent top three finish. Malacia, another signing from the Erik ten Hag era, leaves after injuries and limited opportunities restricted him to just 11 appearances across his final three seasons at the club.
