Manning Cup second round games postponed due to outstanding games impacted by weather

The second round of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup games scheduled to start on Tuesday, October 22 has been postponed until Saturday, October 26 due to several outstanding matches impacted by the inclement weather.

In contrast, the rural area ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup second round has already started with some intriguing results as some of the favoured teams struggling, including defending champion Clarendon College.

With five of the 16 slots still undecided in the Manning Cup, ruling body ISSA announced due to the uncertainty surrounding the weather, all games will now be started at 3:00 pm instead of the usual 3:30 pm.

ISSA also noted that matches scheduled for venues that are prone to be waterlogged must indicate an alternative venue for the matches that are scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 and Thursday, October 24 to complete the first round.

On Saturday, Ardenne beat Clan Carthy 2-1 in Zone A; Mona edged Charlie Smith 1-0 and Waterford and Tarrant drew 0-0 in Zone B. STATH continued their recent prolific form, whipping Haile Selassie 5-0 in Zone D while Calabar were held to a 1-1 draw with Camperdown High as Vauxhall High beat Kingston Technical 6-2.

In the lone Zone F encounter, Jamaica College trounced Bridgeport 7-1.

With most of the second-round teams decided, the zones have taken shape with Group 1 consisting of Mona High, St George’s College, Campion College and the best third-placed team which should go to St Jago High.

Group 2 is still waiting on two teams, the winner of Zone A and the runner-up of Zone B to join Tivoli Gardens High and Excelsior High. The winner of Zone A will be either Eltham High or Hydel High. The runner-up in Zone B is between Charlie Smith on 18 points from their 10 games and they wait anxiously as Jonathan Grant are on 15 points but has two games remaining against bottom-placed Gaynstead High and Waterford High.

Group 3 is headed by Kingston College and consists of STATHS and Wolmer’s Boys and they await the runner-up from Zone A which could be Eltham High or Hydel High.

Group 4 will be favourites Jamaica College, the dangerous St Catherine High, Calabar High and the next best third-paced team that could be Charlie Smith or Jonathan Grant. The second round set of games will be kicked off on Saturday, October 26.
