Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Manpower & Maintenance Services Limited Group (MMS) Don A Gittens has big plans for the organisation.

“The plan is to move MMS forward, to expand and ensure we continue to build and grow,” Gittens said in an interview with Our Today. “I am looking to take MMS to new heights…I see no reason, especially given the numbers, why we can’t grow both locally, and regionally.”

His plans include implementing innovative procedures and adding new divisions to the company such as property management and waste management.

Gittens is a seasoned management professional, having previously worked with Jamaica Promotions Corporation where he served for over six years as a manager in Logistics, Energy, Infrastructure and Emerging Sectors. He has also worked in the information and communications technology industry, serving as Cable and Wireless’ accounts director.

He took over as CEO of MMS in 2023.

His impressive track record also includes over 20 years in business development, strategic planning, international investment and trade negotiations, policy development, strategic marketing, client relationship management, consultative and technology sales, and financial analysis for MMS. He has effectively represented Jamaica at the highest level and played a pivotal role as a team member for the United Nations’ project on the Development of Financial Investment for Sustainable Infrastructure Projects towards Sustainable Development Goals.

When Our Today asked what were some of the challenges he has encountered thus far in his role as CEO, Gittens replied, “Managing growth, culture, change and getting his team and employees to believe in the strategies he puts forward.”

He noted that his focus is mainly on the employees at MMS, stating that it is immensely important that they understand the mission and vision, and also have a sense of loyalty to the company so MMS can reach its goals within a short period.

“I see no reason why we cannot do it,” he said.

“We are a labour-intensive organisation; employees must be comfortable, they must have the information they need.”

Gittens believes that MMS, under his helm, can be a force outside of Jamaica.

“We are already excelling in facilities management, training and development programmes, pest management, human resource development and training, and our ‘bread and butter’ janitorial services. But we have the capacity to do more,” he said.
