Chairman of I.W.E.D. Wayne Chen, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the institution’s role in equipping individuals with the skills necessary for career advancement. “Today is a proud day for me when I look at this beautiful group of graduates—you have done something very important and significant, you have gotten certified in marketable skill. We talk a lot about skills gap and low earnings in Jamaica…one thing we all concluded is that the only sustainable way to see an improvement in our earnings, whether we go to work for someone or we are working for ourselves is to improve our personal productivity by increasing skills, getting better at what you do, in something that people are willing to pray for.”

He added that upskilling and lifelong learning were becoming increasingly important as society progressed.
