March 1 quake upgraded to magnitude 4.6

The Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona campus has confirmed a magnitude 4.6 tremor that struck sections of Jamaica on Sunday (March 1).

The unit, in a statement, indicated that the quake was recorded around 8:34 am local time. Its epicentre was located approxiamately 10 kilometres northeast of Stony Hill, St Andrew, with a focal depth of 16 kilometres.

Jamaicans on social media reported shaking in sections of Kingston, St Andrew, St. Catherine and in other areas of the island.  

There were no immediate reports of infrastructural damage.
