The self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Christmas,’ Mariah Carey, sends warm congratulations to fellow American singer Brenda Lee, as her holiday classic Rockin Around the Christmas Tree rocks atop the Billboard Hot 100 for the second consecutive week, surpassing the iconic All I Want For Christmas Is You.
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree made history last week when the 65-year-old song topped the Billboard charts for the first time. The song was first recorded in 1958, when Lee was just 13 years old.
In a post on her social media, Lee shared a picture of a bouquet she received from Carey, congratulating her on her milestone achievement.
“Dear Ms Brenda, Congratulations on your historic #1. Have a Merry Christmas. Love, Mariah,” read the card nestled amid the bouquet of flowers.

“Thank you for your sweet note, @Mariah Carey! Wishing you the merriest Christmas, too!” Brenda responded in a post on social media.
Carey, whose hit song All I Want For Christmas Is You usually tops the chart during the holiday season, is number two on the Billboard charts.
In celebration of Rockin Around the Christmas Tree‘s 65th anniversary, Lee released the first official music video for the song last month. But little did she know the song would top the charts less than three weeks later.
In an interview with Salon magazine, Lee shared that she was disappointed her song did not top the charts upon its initial release.
“I might have been a little disappointed because we all loved the song so much. And we wanted it to do really good. And when it just didn’t for a minute, we thought, ‘Oh, lordy, lordy’. But it came through, as good songs do, and now it’s one of the songs that I have to sing every time I sing anywhere,” she said.
Rockin Around the Christmas Tree first hit the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960 and peaked at number 14. The song was written by Johnny Marks and produced by Owen Bradley.
