R&B singer Mariah Carey has announced that both her mother and sister have passed away over the weekend, leaving the Vision of Love crooner devastated.

In an interview with People, Mariah gave insight into how she has been handling the news, stating: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

Carey did not provide details about the cause of death for her mother, Patricia Carey, or her older sister, Alison Carey. Patricia was 87 years old while Alison was 63.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Mariah added.

Carey’s sentiment speaks to the sense of comfort and closure she received in those last moments she got to spend with her mother.
