Jean-Philippe Mateta’s planned switch from Crystal Palace to AC Milan has collapsed after medical concerns, ending the 28-year-old striker’s chance to leave Selhurst Park for now.
The French forward, who has been managing a knee issue, completed an initial medical on Sunday and follow-up tests on Monday, prompting Milan to step back from the £30 million deal.
Palace, meanwhile, are pushing ahead with a £48 million move for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen before Monday’s transfer deadline. The club had held off on letting Mateta go until a replacement was secured, and once the Strand Larsen deal was agreed, Mateta was allowed to undergo an initial medical in London before his planned trip to Italy.
Nottingham Forest had also tried to sign Mateta, but their £35 million offer was turned down last weekend.
