Matthew Samuda leads preliminary count in St Ann North Eastern by-election

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Matthew Samuda has emerged as the more favourable candidate in the St Ann North Eastern by-election.

Preliminary results by the Electoral Office of Jamaica revealed that Samuda secured 4,838 votes ahead of independent candidate David Anderson, 222 and Chase Niel of the United Independents’ Congress of Jamaica (UIC), 30.

The EOJ says its returning officer will commence the final counting of the ballots on Tuesday, October 1, at the designated counting centre.

There was an estimated 11.6 per cent voter turnout of the 43,827 registered voters in the St. Ann North Eastern constituency.
