Over 130 students recently received back-to-school support from MBJ Airports Limited (MBJ), the operator of Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

In two separate events, the airport operator demonstrated its strong commitment to supporting education and youth development, underscoring its continued contributions to students in the region over the years.

Sixty-one students residing in the Whitehouse community in Montego Bay were presented with book vouchers valued at $5,000 each. The presentation was on Friday, August 23 at the community’s Recreational Shoreline Fishing Tournament. Meanwhile, students in Woodsville, Hanover, were not to be left out as 78 backpacks, all stocked with notebooks donated by MBJ, were distributed to children at the Woodsville CDC Back-to-School Treat and Health Fair on Sunday, August 25.

“At MBJ, we believe that investing in education is investing in the future of Jamaica. Each year, we ensure that we play our part by ensuring students have the essential resources as they prepare for the new school year,” shared Sharon Hislop-Holt, Manager of Commercial Business Development and Marketing at MBJ Airports Limited.

“Through these efforts, we help to provide the students, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, with some of the necessary tools to succeed in school,” she continued.

Community leaders expressed their gratitude for MBJ’s consistent support.  Tisa Anderson, President of the Whitehouse Community Development Club which hosted the Tournament, highlighted the company’s year-round involvement in various community programmes and thanked MBJ for always supporting the annual back-to-school initiative.  In Woodsville, local organizers noted that MBJ’s contributions to their children would have a “lasting impact on their academic journey and make a difference in our community.”

The back-to-school activities are part of MBJ’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at fostering community growth, supporting education development, and improving the quality of life for many families in Jamaica.  By focusing on education, MBJ Airports Limited helps alleviate the financial burden on families and ensures that students have access to the tools they need to support their academic success.
