The eighth staging of the MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic is set to be an exciting affair as the top prize on offer this year is a 2025 E-Power Nissan X-trail for the lucky golfer who can hit a hole in one at a selected hole on the golf course at Caymanas Golf and Country Club.
This year’s staging will take place on Saturday, June 7th, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:00 am. The cost for registration, which includes lunch, remains at last year’s price of $8,500.
The event was launched at the Fidelity Motors/Nissan Showroom at 5-18 Hanover Street on Wednesday, May 21st.
Excitement is already building around the tournament, which is always well supported by some of the top local golfers, and Victor Tomlinson, the President of the Munro College Old Boys Association (MCOBA), is happy with the support received from both corporate society and golfers so far.
“Our main prize this year will be a Nissan E-Power X-trail for a hole-in-one at hole #10. This is the second time that Fidelity is offering a car as the main prize, and should some lucky golfer wins it, then CG United will cover the cost of insurance for this brand new vehicle. “We have golfers coming from overseas in addition to the local golfers, and we anticipate that we will have more than 80 golfers this year.”
Tomlinson explained the need for this charity event to be held every year.
“We want to develop good sportsmen and good gentlemen from Munro College. Sports is one of the most important aspects of a boy’s life, so we have the football programme, the track and field programme, there is the field hockey programme, the tennis programme, basketball, all sporting programmes should benefit.”
“We are definitely pleased with the level of sponsors we have. We have Keller Williams, we have Nissan, Fidelity Motors, CG United Insurance and many others.”
Rochelle Wint, Marketing Director at Keller Williams, explained her company’s continued involvement in the tournament.
“We have been a part of the tournament from inception. I guess it helps that our founders are actually Munro Old Boys. It is important for children, especially boys, to be involved with sports, and this tournament helps to provide support to the Munro College sports programme, so we are delighted to be a part of it every year.”
Deborah Stewart, General Manager of Fidelity Motors Limited, stressed the importance of supporting the event.
“Fidelity Motors is proud to sponsor the Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic because we believe in supporting initiatives that foster excellence, community spirit and that contribute to the development of future athletes. It is a pleasure for us to partner with the Munro College Old Boys Association on this awesome event. It speaks to commitment and community development. It is very, very impressive that a group of gentlemen have made such a commitment that helps to develop young men in Jamaica.
“They are excellent partners and we have seen where their investment has had a significant impact on the young people in Jamaica,” she said.
The tournament will be contested in the Stableford format with the Ladies’ category, Men’s, Men’s Senior and Men’s Super Senior categories.
The tournament’s name is a tribute to Lindy Delapenha, an avid golfer, great footballer and good track athlete. The event’s main sponsors are Keller Williams Realtors, Fidelity Motors (Nissan), JMMB, CG United Insurance, Regency Petroleum, JamGas, Jamaica Inn, Spanish Court Hotel, and Jewel Paradise Cove Resort and Spa.
