Meadowrest Memorial Gardens says it is in the ‘final stages’ of commissioning a state-of-the-art crematorium facility at its The Gardens location at Whittakers Mountain in St Catherine.
Scheduled to open later this year, Meadowrest advised that its crematorium will operate in full compliance with all Jamaican regulations. The advanced facility, according to Meadowrest, represents its continued commitment to providing dignified end-of-life services while prioritising community health and environmental responsibility.
The new crematorium will feature industry-leading technology designed with safety, security, and
environmental protection as core principles.
“Our facility will be compliant with local regulatory standards, ensuring we operate with minimal environmental impact while maintaining the highest level of respect for loved ones,” the company disclosed.
With a high-capacity crematory retort, the facility can process over 2,000 cremations annually, meeting
growing community needs while maintaining Meadowrest’s commitment to personal care and attention
to detail.
“Our vision for the Crematorium represents our unwavering dedication to serving families during their
most difficult moments with both compassion and excellence,” said Ingrid Chambers, chief executive
officer of the United Church Mission Enterprise. “This facility embodies our promise to all stakeholders the families we serve, our dedicated team members, and the broader community – that we will continue to innovate and improve while remaining true to our core values of respect, and environmental
stewardship.”
The thoughtfully designed space will include a private viewing room to provide comfort for families choosing to witness the cremation process.
As part of Meadowrest’s comprehensive memorial offerings, the new facility will enhance accessibility and choice while significantly improving service turnaround times.
Key features of the new crematorium include:
- Body chillers and identification tagging systems
- Combustible caskets and private viewing room
- State-of-the-art emission control systems that protect air quality
- Enhanced security protocols
- Energy-efficient design and operation
- Private spaces for family ceremonies and viewings
- Streamlined processes that reduce wait times while maintaining dignified care
Adding to these improvements, Meadowrest has partnered with the Government of Jamaica to fund
infrastructure upgrades in the surrounding area that will provide enhanced access to The Gardens.
Road improvement works are currently underway, with completion expected to significantly improve the travel experience for visitors and the surrounding communities. The comprehensive roadway upgrades
will create smoother driving conditions and easier navigation to the property, ensuring families and guests can reach the Gardens with greater comfort and convenience.
