Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s decree earlier this week that drug cartels based in the country are terrorist groups “won’t help,” adding her government is nonetheless preparing for its legal impacts.

The leftist leader noted that a team of lawyers is in place to analyze possible economic impacts of the Trump decree, issued on the first day of his new term, including on groups with no links to organized crime.

“We believe this won’t help, but what would help would be joint collaboration and coordination,” said Sheinbaum.
