Microsoft has announced Microsoft Copilot, a new AI companion designed to simplify daily computing tasks.
Microsoft Copilot aims to merge chat interfaces and advanced language models to provide users with a seamless AI companion that can respond to requests, generate content, and even take action based on user input.
Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president & consumer chief marketing officer at Microsoft, in a statement shared on Microsoft’s official blog site on Thursday, September 21, said, “We are entering a new era of AI, one that is fundamentally changing how we relate to and benefit from technology.”
With the convergence of chat interfaces and large language models, you can now ask for what you want in natural language, and the technology is smart enough to answer, create it, or take action. At Microsoft, we think about this as having a copilot to help navigate any task.

Microsoft has been steadily integrating AI-powered copilots into its most popular products. These copilots aim to enhance user experiences across various domains, from coding with GitHub to improving productivity with Microsoft 365. The introduction of Microsoft Copilot unifies these capabilities into a single, comprehensive AI companion designed to enhance users’ daily lives.
What sets Microsoft Copilot apart is its ability to incorporate contextual information from the web, users’ work data, and their ongoing PC activities to provide more intelligent and tailored assistance. Microsoft Copilot will roll out on September 26, as part of a free update to Windows 11. Additionally, it will be integrated into Microsoft 365, Edge, and Bing, providing a seamless experience for users. The AI companion can be accessed as an app or can appear when needed through a simple right-click.
In tandem with the Microsoft Copilot announcement, the company also revealed over 150 new features in the upcoming Windows 11 update. These features bring the power of Copilot and new AI-powered experiences to popular Windows apps such as Paint, Photos, and Clipchamp, making daily computing tasks more efficient and user-friendly.
