Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications, and Transport Daryl Vaz, on Thursday, November 21 joined the Acting Managing Director of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Owen Ellington, for a Passenger Engagement, in efforts to foster meaningful dialogue with commuters and evaluate service delivery on critical routes.
The engagement took place from the Spanish Town Layby in St Catherine to the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre, before returning to Spanish Town. Vaz was joined by other officials from the Ministry and the JUTC.
Throughout the activity, Vaz and Ellington interacted with passengers, discussing their experiences and gathering feedback on service reliability, comfort, and efficiency. Commuters expressed appreciation for the initiative and highlighted areas where improvements could enhance their daily transit experiences.
“This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to building a public transportation system that meets the needs of Jamaicans. Listening to our commuters is key to ensuring that we deliver a service that is safe, efficient, and reliable,” said Vaz.
Ellington added: “The Route/Passenger Engagement allows us to connect directly with the people we serve. We are taking the feedback seriously as we work to refine operations and strengthen our commitment to excellence.”
This engagement underscores the ministry’s commitment, through the JUTC to improve public transportation services and ensure the voices of commuters are at the heart of decision-making.
For further updates and improvements based on the feedback received, the ministry and the JUTC will continue to work together to enhance Jamaica’s public transportation system.
