Industry Minister Aubyn Hill has urged companies across various sectors to harness the power of technology to enhance productivity, meet global demands, and bolster Jamaica’s competitiveness on the international stage.

Hill highlighted the transformative impact of smart technology on industries like manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, and logistics at the launch event of Smart Mobile Solutions Group’s (SMS) Smart Tech 360 system.

“The use of smart technology helps to streamline processes, automate tasks, and optimize resource allocation, thereby driving efficiency and effectiveness,” senator Hill said.

SMS Group, the primary distributor of Samsung and Lenovo products in the Caribbean, has expanded with the introduction of the Software Studio and Technical Services divisions.

Co-founder and managing director of SMS Dane Spencer explained the reason behind the company’s integrated approach: “We are bringing these three companies together [SMS, Samsung and Lenovo] to bring a 360 solution. What this really means is that we implement the solutions, we provide the commodities, and we also develop software and different customised solutions to help businesses get a new workflow.”

SMS Group, recognised as the first and only full-service, non-carrier mobile support unit in Jamaica, offers a wide array of services including mobile device management, customised software solutions, and the supply of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment.

Their commitment to innovation extends beyond Jamaica, with operations in Miami, aimed at expanding their regional and global footprint.

With a customer base exceeding 14,000 and servicing over 200 clients, SMS Group has also pioneered mobile handset protection plans in the Caribbean through their Smart Protect initiative.

Hill commended SMS Group for its proactive role in advancing Jamaica’s digital transformation agenda and encouraged other companies to follow suit.

He stresses that embracing technology is pivotal to positioning Jamaica as a leader in the digital economy and fostering sustained growth across all sectors.
