A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 was felt across sections of Jamaica yesterday morning.

The Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies reports that preliminary data indicate the tremor occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. and was felt in parts of Kingston and St Andrew, as well as St Catherine.

The unit reported that the epicentre was located about five kilometres northeast of Golden Spring with a focal depth of 12 kilometres. It described the event as a local earthquake.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage linked to the tremor.

Officials said the information remains preliminary and could be revised as additional seismic data is analysed.
