Rachel Silvera, the newly crowned Miss Universe Jamaica 2024, is ready to represent her country at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City.
“I’m very, very excited. I am [also] nervous because Jamaica is the Beyoncé of the world. So there’s a lot of pressure in representing such a remarkable and vibrant country,” Silvera said in an interview. She expressed her determination to honour her heritage and the organisation that prepared her for this significant moment.
Silvera also leaves a message to her fellow countrymen as she heads out on a mission to bring home the title and crown.
While details about her national costume remain under wraps, Mark McDermoth, co-national director of Miss Universe Jamaica, revealed that it will celebrate the island’s rich musical heritage. “It’s about the vibrancy of Jamaican music,” he stated, hinting at a costume that would capture the essence of the nation’s culture.
With 130 delegates competing this year, McDermoth the importance of fashion in making a memorable impression.
Fellow co-national director Karl Williams added that the costume would feature “amazing colours and amazing silhouettes”, tailored to highlight Silvera’s unique personality and appearance.
The 73rd Miss Universe pageant will take place on November 16 at the Mexico City Arena and will be the first time the country has hosted the event since 2007.
