Three Montego Bay-based charities are set to benefit from the proceeds of a fundraising event to be hosted by the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) chapter of the resort city on August 19 at the Rose Hall Great House in St James.

The event, themed ‘A celebration of Fine Jamaican Cuisines‘, which features food and wine pairing stations and a wide range of cuisines and alcoholic beverages, will support the SOS Children’s Village, Barrett Town; Christian School for the Deaf in Lethe, St James and the Cartagena Basic School playground project in Granville.

Nadine Spence, chair of the Montego Bay chapter of the JHTA said “we are very excited about  the event which pays homage to fine Jamaican cuisine and celebrates the fusion of the many influences from neighbours, near and far.”

Spence noted that “a team of some of Mobay’s best chefs from the hotels will be presenting a feast for all palates  including specialities like suckling pig, paella, pastas, middle eastern dishes, organic, seafood dishes and an exciting display of desserts.”

“Our chapter would annually host fundraising events in order to support several very worthy charities in Montego Bay but these events were curtailed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The reality is that while people could not congregate during the pandemic when many fundraisers had to be cancelled, the needs of the charities remained constant. In some instances, the needs were amplified over the past two years. So we are very happy to be getting back on stream and truly grateful for the many generous sponsors helping us to mount the event,” she explained further.
