It has come to our attention that Mr Gregg Connell of Maxi Taxi Montego Bay has insinuated that there were discussions with ministry officials, including yourself, that may have given the impression of tacit approval for the Uber partnership. Furthermore, the reported indifference from the executive director of TPDco towards Uber’s entry into the market only adds to the growing unease surrounding this issue.

The implications of these claims are significant and cannot be ignored. As such, I am demanding immediate clarification on whether the Ministry of Tourism granted permission for Uber to enter into a partnership with Maxi Taxi Montego Bay. The potential ramifications of such a partnership on the transport sector in Jamaica are far-reaching, and it is imperative that the ministry’s stance on this matter is made unequivocally clear.

In light of these developments, we are considering pursuing a judicial review to address any potential misconduct or complicity on the part of the ministry. Your prompt and detailed response to this enquiry is essential in ensuring transparency and accountability within the Ministry of Tourism.

I urge you to treat this matter with the utmost seriousness and provide a comprehensive explanation without delay. The integrity of our transport sector and the principles of fair competition are at stake, and it is imperative that swift action is taken to address these concerns.
